PhD: High-Integrity Systems Engineering (York)

The High Integrity Systems Engineering Group, Department of Computer Science, University of York, has two EPSRC PhD studentships available to carry out research as part of the LSCITS project. The general focus of the research to be carried out in the studentships will be on topics related to large-scale complex IT systems, as well as the specific research areas studied by York in the project - i.e., dependability, safety, availability, autonomy (e.g., exemplified through agent-based technologies), and flexibility (e.g., as achieved through agile software development processes).

The work will involve a mixture of academic study, case studies and technology transfer. The work will be carried out at York, but will involve interaction with the other LSCITS collaborators. This will include regular project, technical and experimental meetings, special interest group meetings and workshops.

Applicants should have (or expect to gain in the near future) a Class 1 or 2(i) honours degree, or a masters qualification, in Computer Science or a related discipline.

The grant covers both academic fees and subsistence for three years. The stipend in the academic year 2007-2008 is £12,600, tax exempt, £12,900 in the following year, and around £13,200 in the final year. Additional support to cover project costs and conference travel will also be available. The above studentships are available to UK/EU candidates only.

Informal enquiries regarding the project may be obtained by contacting the York LSCITS associate faculty, Dr Richard Paige (paige@cs.york.ac.uk) and Dr Tim Kelly (tpk@cs.york.ac.uk), or the LSCITS Principal Investigator at York, Prof. John McDermid (john.mcdermid@cs.york.ac.uk).
